Social Networking - What’s the Point?
Social networking is here to stay and if you are to be successful in your efforts, it is important that you understand it is not about being competitive or about scoring points. As with any business activity, the numbers are important, but they are, in reality, just an indication of progress and a visible key that you are making any impact. They can be used as a benchmark that shows whether what you are doing is getting some sort of result or that you are improving in yoru efforts.
Every business activity requires clarity and planning; social networking requires that you know your actual goal and how it fits into your overall intention. Are you wanting to increase your visibility? Sales? Donations? Business or career opportunities? Are you just hanging out?
There is nothing wrong with using Social Networking to enhance your sense of community, or to merely entertain and inform yourself. However, if your plan is to add it as a marketing arm of your business model, then you will need to plan exactly how you plan to use the service to meet those business goals, and measure so the consequences of engagement as well.
How effectively and efficiently you complete those tasks will depend upon how well informed you are about the processes and protocols and the tips, tools and resources available to you.
